Bone-Reconstruction

When teeth are lost, the body reduces the amount of bone tissue that is no longer used. An implantation, however, needs a certain minimum of bone tissue. Patients that have suffered from toothlessness for a long time, can still be helped. A deficit in bonal structure can be corrected in an additional intervention, in which the patient's bone from other bodyparts can be transplanted into the jaw. As the implanted material is originally proper to the body it will grow in completely and form a firm basis for the implant to come.

A minor deficite in bonal structure can be filled in with syntehtic material. In the same intervention as the very implantation is to take place, the gap is filled in with the material, which is often mixed with bone fragments. The operated area is protected by a membrane.

Proper bone
Too narrow jaws or atrophied parts of the jaw bone can be reinforced by proper bone material. The extracted bone fragment is fixed with special screws and generally needs several months to grow in firmly. It is covered by a membrane during this period of time, in order to build up firm bone substance. Only after full recovery is the actual implant inserted.

In case of major lack of bonal structure, whole parts of body-proper tissue is transplanted into the jaw. Minor parts of tissue are extracted from the lower jaw, the chin and the wisdom-tooth-area and directly placed into the part of the jaw in question. If much bonal tissue is needed, it can also be extracted from the hip-bone.
